Biography

Richard M. Platt

Biography

  • Richard Platt grew up in Bucks County Pennsylvania, and started his television work at the tender age of 12. He spent the next 6 years shooting, directing, technical directing and editing for a local public access cable TV show for a group called Cinekyd. Cinekyd was a non-profit educational group teaching acting and visual arts to children aged 12-18.

After leaving Cinekyd, Richard went to Temple University and graduated in 1988. In his senior year of college, he interned for a local TV station in their News Department. At WTAF (now WTXF) in Philadelphia, Richard was the 1st intern to edit for air for their 10 O'clock News program. The week his internship ended he was hired as an editor working 4 hours a night for their 10pm show.

Shortly thereafter, he was hired by the local NBC affiliate (KYW-TV) to work "vacation relief" over the summer. He would work from 10am to 6pm, for the 12, 5 and 6 O'clock news, then run down the block to continue his work at WTXF for the 10 O'clock news.

Eventually Richard joined KYW full time, working there from 1988-1994. In 1994 he was offered a job in New York for NBC Network News to edit for Dateline which was expanding from 1 night a week to eventually 5 nights a week. He's been there ever since.

While at Dateline Richard Platt has won Emmy Awards, National Press Photographer Editing awards, Headliners, Gracies, and many others. He lives in NJ with his wife and two children.
