Biography

Valentine Schlegel was born on November 23, 1925 in Sète, Hérault, France. Valentine was an art director, known for La Pointe Courte (1955) and Along the Coast (1958). Valentine died on May 16, 2021 in Paris, France.

Younger sister of Andrée Schlegel (1916-2009) wife of Jean Vilar and of photographer Suzanne Schlegel-Fournier (1919-2007), she was the longtime companion of art historian and curator Yvonne Brunhammer.

Ceramist, costume designer, art director, art professor, she was the best friend from primary school of Agnès Varda.
