  • George Phillips is a comedian and entertainer best remembered for his role as a hypochondriac alongside comedian Michael Bentine in the 1958 TV show Take Your Pick (1955).

    Throughout his career, George developed a repertoire of unique characters for variety act performances. From portraying "The Lost Explorer," who rode an ostrich à la Bernie Clifton, to embodying "The Romantic Spaniard," his performances were always memorable on the local theatre circuits, He graced the screens of various variety television shows in the early 2000s and continued to entertain audiences until the remarkable age of 95.

    George passed away in late 2019 and a posthumous tribute to George is featured in the title sequence for Life in the Old Cloth (2025), of which the lead character "Charles" is loosely based upon.
