Biography

Melanie Brooks is native to Los Angeles. She began her professional acting career at the age of eight, booking national commercials, voice-overs, as well as roles in TV, Film and Theatre. She earned a BFA at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, studying acting at The Lee StrasbergTheatre & Film Institute and Musical Theatre at CAP21. She studied improv comedy with Kip King and The Groundlings (LA) and at Upright Citizens Brigade (NY). She studied writing for TV and Film at NYU's Dramatic Writing Department, and UCLA. She continues to split her time in LA and NY.

Al Lichtman. was the Great-Great Uncle of Melanie Brooks. Al was a field manager the for Famous Players. In the early 1920's he owned and operated his own distribution company. He served as an executive at such studios as Famous Players, MGM, United Artists and 20th Century-Fox and was a major figure in the development of CinemaScope. In 1919 he worked with Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, D.W. Griffith and William S. Hart in the formation of United Artists Pictures, of which he became president. In 1935 he reorganized MGM and served as an executive producer from 1938-1949, when he joined 20th Century-Fox. He retired from Fox in 1957. Lichtman later served as President of Preferred Pictures. His Star on The Walk of Fame can be seen near the corner of Hollywood & Highland.
