Biography

Karen Oliver's, also known as Kay A. Oliver, first industry job was on the television show Fight Back! with David Horowitz at KNBC. She then moved to Washington, producing Public Service Announcements, creating promotional transitions for independent TV stations, writing news, and overseeing the Seattle Seafair Parade.

Returning to California, she worked at Universal Studios on films such as Scent of a Woman, Backdraft, The Mummy, Liar Liar, and Apollo 13. At DreamWorks Studios, she earned screen credits for animated hits like Shrek the Third, Shrek 2, Shark Tale, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, Flushed Away, Bee Movie, and Madagascar.

Karen also produces, writes, and directs. Her films include Techno Turmoil, Mirror Image, and Mirror Image 2: Shattered Dreams. In 2009, she directed the TV pilot For the Love of Music, starring Grammy-nominated artist Ty Herndon.

At Saban Brands, Karen developed content for the #1 live-action children's show Power Rangers and the Saturday morning TV block Vortexx. She also spearheaded the first five Power Rangers graphic novels, praised by fans as even better than the TV series.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Karen transitioned to writing novels, earning over 25 literary awards and recognition in The Wall Street Journal, Who's Who in America, and as "Distinguished Woman of the Year" by the City of Stanton in 2023. Recently honored as Fiction Author of the Year by IAOTP.

Inspired by her Hollywood experience, Karen's writing has become her latest passion. "Writing a novel is like crafting a screenplay but without music and visuals...so you build the high points and enhance the mental imagery," she explains.

Reflecting on her transition, Karen says, "There are many similarities between writing a fictional story in novel form and writing a screenplay for a movie. The book comes without the music and visuals, so as a writer, you build the high points and add to the mental visuals." Her literary work has earned numerous accolades, including Books of the Year, international first place awards, and the Literary Titan Awards. These honors culminated in her induction into Marquis Who's Who in America.

Oliver continues her work in Hollywood producing and writing. Her novel "Road to Elysium," is being scouted to become a feature film.
