- Gene Taylor was born on July 2, 1952 in Norwalk, California, USA. He died on February 20, 2021 in Austin, Texas, USA.
- In 1974 he was asked to perform with Canned Heat. He stayed with the band until 1976.
- In 1978 he moved to Toronto to play music with well-known Canadian bluesman Morgan Davis. During his years there he played and recorded with many musicians including Ronnie Hawkins.
- In 1986 he released his first solo album "Handmade." The album featured Bill Bateman (The Blasters), Larry Taylor (Canned Heat), Louie Lista (Sheiks Of Shake) and Andrew Woolfolk (Earth, Wind & Fire).
- As a teenager in Los Angeles performed boogie woogie piano with L.A.-based blues legends as Big Joe Turner, T-Bone Walker, Lowell Fulson and Pee-Wee Crayton.
- When not touring with The Blasters in the 1980s he toured with Ricky Nelson.
