Mini bio

  • Herb Alan Tripp writer, producer, director, actor, and president of HAT Entertainment is a very prominent talented young man who is making an impact in our community the best way he can.

Raised in Detroit, Michigan at the age of five, Herb sat in the fifth row at the Music Hall auditorium. His heart began to race as he saw a man get shot five times and bleed to his death. When he heard the gun go off, he looked on stage at the man, turned to his mother and said, "Isn't anyone going to help him?" As, he looked around the auditorium he said, "Why isn't anyone doing anything?", and his mother looked him square in the face and said, "Son it's just a play, it's not real". At that point, his life began to change dramatically.

Later, he attended the Detroit H.S. Fine Arts to perfect his craft. He was honored caption of the speech & debate team of the school winning three consistent years in a row, first place in the state of Michigan. Due to so much violence, and depression in the city, Herb Tripp started his first production producing and performing a gospel musical play. He wanted to make a positive impact in his community which he did, the play was a big success it gathered youth and adults to unite as one, and taught self respect. His play toured through Detroit, Michigan churches, and schools. He did not stop his education there he was granted a full scholarship to Cal Arts in Valencia, California. Graduated from American Academy of Dramatic Arts West.

In 2005, he received the lead role in the film "Son Up" which won over 20 awards from film festivals. Just to name a few Palm Springs Film Festival, Harlem Film Festival, and CineQuest Film Festival.

Tripp also received a 2006 Best Actor award from the historic Fargo Film Festival.

Quotes

  • Many would describe my journey to Hollywood as a bilateral twist of fate. It was bilateral in that I told other people (who had a need to know) exactly what they wanted to hear, 'He is most definitely going to college,' and at the same time, I was telling myself, in the words of a great singer by the name of Gladys Knight, "He's on his way, he's busting into Hollywood."

Not meaning to sound vainglorious in any way, but I remember my first day in Hollywood, I remember thinking to myself, 'Why should I waste my time doing anything else other than getting myself a star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame, my first six months in town.'

A few years later, I am right in the middle of another bilateral twist of fate. I am telling myself exactly what I need to hear, "I am most definitely going to become a consummate entertainer, and I simply love every minute of it." I am telling other people, in the words of another great singer, Nat King Cole, the famous lines from the song Nature Boy, "The greatest thing you will ever learn, is to love, and be loved in return."
