  • Born in Warsaw, Poland as Kazimierz Piotr Staszewski and known simply as Kazik, he is a Polish singer, saxophone player, composer, lyricist, and columnist, best known as the lead singer of Kult. His father Stanislaw Staszewski was an architect by trade while writing poetry and singing as a hobby, and his mother Krystyna Staszewska (nee Mojkowska) was a construction technician. His parents split before Staszewski was born and he grew up in Warsaw raised by his mother and grandmother while regularly visiting his father who emigrated to France. He studied sociology at the University of Warsaw but didn't finish his degree. His first live performance was in 1979 with the band Poland (later renamed Novelty Poland). In 1982 he co-founded Kult, in which he's been a lead singer ever since with a short break in the mid-80s when he worked in the UK. A prolific musician, he's also been involved with bands such Kazik Na Zywo, Buldog, El Dupa, Yugoton, Zuch Kazik, and Kazik + Zdunek Ensemble as well as pursuing a solo career. In addition to his music career, Staszewski is a columnist, having published in outlets such as "Gazeta Wyborcza" and Wirtualna Polska. He's been married to Anna Staszewska (nee Kaminska) since 1984, they have two sons, Kazimierz and Jan.
