- Peter Burns studied English Composition and Rhetoric at U.C. Berkeley where he became disillusioned with the academic approach to writing. He wanted to write like his heroes and left the university where he then studies Shakespearian Literature at Merritt Junior College in Oakland and Filmmaking at Hollywood Film Institute.
- Peter Burns' mother, Paula Burns, ran a marionette group with her her children. They wrote, designed theater sets, recorded dialogue and sound effects and rehearsed and performed working the puppets. Peter was the youngest and got started at age six. This is is how Peter fell in love with production and the creativity and vision for affecting audiences with it.
- Peter Burns was born and raised in Berkeley, California where he attended Berkeley High School and U.C. Berkeley, and later attended film school at Saul Zaentz Media Center, which was the home of Fantasy Studios and The Saul Zaentz Company. Mr. Zaentz mentored Burns after a cameo in one of Burns' student films.
