Biography

Rory Conroy was born on the 27th of July 1979 in Dublin, Ireland. He was the youngest of two children of Eamonn and Mary Conroy.

Showing some promise from an early age he was given every advantage that his parents could afford in the economically tough times of 1980s Ireland in order to support his fledgling talent. As a youth he studied not only acting but also ballet and performed locally in various children's events.

Ironically his national acting recognition comes not from the stage, which he preferred since first seeing the famous Dublin 'Queen of the Stage' Maureen Potter, but from Television. His only notable hit came via this medium when he played Chris Aherne in the Irish drama Fair City between 2003-2005. His character was a solitary one and for the first year seemed to reflect the mood of the scene he was in more than anything else. However his second year gave him a chance to shine and the portrayal of a young man declining into a spiritual abyss accompanied by crippling depression in an increasingly affluent society may well mirror the experiences of many his contemporaries.

Conroy's only other performances on television were a rather insipid on Tubridy Tonight which gave rise to whether he was an actor or just like his character, and a that of a true raconteur on The Late Late Show which dispelled any doubts.

He has previously worked in the Irish Civil Service and is currently working as a consultant for a business of his elder brother.
