Sybille Bedford was born on March 16, 1911 in Charlottenburg, Germany. She was a writer, known for Das Vermächtnis (1969), A Legacy (1975) and Bookmark (1983). She was married to Walter Croan (aka Bedford). She died on February 17, 2006 in Chelsea, London, England, UK.

She was good friends with the writer Aldous Huxley and his wife Maria Nys. It was the Huxleys who arranged her marriage of convenience to Walter Bedford in London, in order to secure her a British passport and to avoid her return to Germany where the authorities had frozen her bank account due to an anti-Nazi article she had written.
