David Magdael & Associates (DMAG-PR) specializes in publicity and marketing of documentary and independent films. Over the past 20 years, Magdael and his firm has worked on a number of Oscar -winning films and documentaries including: THE QUEEN OF BASKETBALL; LIKE A ROLLING STONE - THE LIFE & TIMES OF BEN FONG TORRES; BAD AXE; FREE CHOL SOO LEE; MIJA; FOR SAMA; ASCENSION; MR. DMAGPR excels in strategy planning and implementation and working with new first-time filmmakers and veterans alongside the film's sales and production teams. Owner/CEO Magdael is a longtime member of Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) and is the co-director of the LA Asian Pacific Film Festival since 1997 and is also on the Advisory Board for SXSW. He serves as a mentor at the Sundance Institute Documentary Producers Lab and with other institutions, universities, festivals, including IDFA, AFI Docs, Film Independent, SXSW, AFI FEST, OUTFEST, CAAMFEST,IDA, USC, NYU, AMPAS and more. In 2020 during the lockdown and the killing of George Floyd, Magdael and colleague Vince Johnson created an online film screening platform called OPEN YOUR EYES &THINK MF (OYEATMF) to support filmmakers that don't fit within the current distribution/exhibition system. The goal is to provide access to films that changing the landscape of truth telling and story creation. OYEATMF provides exhibition opportunities, resources, and the creation of meaningful discussions for and by filmmakers who are challenging us to think.
