Biography

Kelby Thwaits is an accomplished Actor, Singer, Musician and Media Artist in Los Angeles, CA, known for his work on Mass Effect 2: Sci vs. Fi (2010), Dead Space: Downfall (2008), Gears of War 2: Sci vs. Fi (2008) and Cinderella Man (2005).

He got his start as an actor and musician performing in plays, musicals, chamber orchestras and rock bands while working as a camera operator for a local TV station in Tucson, AZ.

After moving to Hollywood, he landed his first gig as a Rotoscope artist in the Visual Effects department on Ron Howard Academy Award nominated film Cinderella Man (2005).

He has created, developed and produced original content for Spike TV, SyFy Channel, VH1, MTV, Disney, Sony Online Entertainment, EA Games, Yahoo!, Funny or Die, OnDemand, Microsoft, Bungie Studios, and RED 5 Studios. His work with Walden Media (2004-2006) on the development and public exhibition of new projects for stage and screen included a Rock & Roll version of The Odyssey and a theatrical re-telling of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

He enjoys working across multiple genres and styles including hybrid and mixed media. His Fringe Festival production, 'Black and White in Paris,' showcased original photography by Christopher Broughton, through the use of large projections, printing on fabric, costumes, props and set pieces. The visual elements were then combined with live music, choreography, song and spoken word in an immersive theatrical experience set at a Parisian bistro.

His love for cinematic storytelling through the use of rich, colorful visuals and poignant musical score are manifest in his surrealistic romance, 'A Curious Woman', (filmed entirely on location in Paris, France), which won Best Experimental Film at the Paris International Film Festival.

He has a special fondness for Film Noir and its influence on cinema. His short film, 'Jane: A Noir Live Story', won Best Original Screenplay at Film Fest International London and Best Film at the LA Neo-Noir Film Festival.

He is Producing a number of feature films, set to be released over the next year, including 'The Bunker,' a Sci-Fi Horror staring Tobin Bell, Tony Todd and Chelsea Edmundson, 'Failure!', a Dark Comedy/thriller starring Ted Raimi, and 'Teacher's Pet', a Thriller starring Sara Tomko, Barbara Crampton and Drew Powell.

His acting, singing, voice work and original music can be found in film, television, radio, theatre and video games.

Select theatre credits include starring roles in Jekyll & Hyde, Camelot, The Rainmaker, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Into the Woods, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Jesus Christ Superstar, South Pacific, and Thoroughly Modern Millie.

Kelby received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Arizona where he studied Acting, Classical Voice and Music Composition. He continued his studies at the Academy of Art University where he received a Master of Fine Arts in Motion Pictures & Television (Directing) and Music Scoring & Composition.

He is the Director of Graduate Programs in Film and Television at Mount Saint Mary's University's, Hollywood Studio Campus.
