Patrick von Faber-Castell was born on June 4, 1965 in Düsseldorf, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. He was previously married to Mariella Ahrens.

Son of Hubertus Alexander Wolfgang Rüdiger Emanuel Wilhelm Graf von Faber-Castell and his first wife Liselotte Baecker. Former stepson of Adelheid Freiin von der Leyen zu Bloemersheim. Stepson of Dorothea Mühlbach.

Has a younger sibling from his father's second marriage, Floria-Franziska Marie-Luise Erika Gräfin von Faber-Castell, married to Heinrich Donatus Philipp Umberto Landgraf von Hessen.

Has an older sister, Caroline Elisabeth Renate Gräfin von Faber-Castell, married to Michael Gotzens.

Married Mariella Ahrens in a civil ceremony in New York City on 12 December 2006. The religious ceremony took place at the Martin Luther Kirsche of Schloss Stein, in Stein, near Nuremberg, on 7 July 2007. They separated on 5 November 2012 and divorced in 2015 "due to different views of life".

Has one daughter, Lucia Marie Christina Gräfin von Faber-Castell (b. Berlin, 24 March 2007), and one adopted daughter, his former stepdaughter, Isabella Maria Ahrens Gräfin von Faber-Castell (b. 1999) with his former wife Mariella Ahrens.
