Biography

  • Singer/songwriter Lori Carson was born on March 2, 1958 at Queens Hospital in New York City, New York. Her mother Edith was a schoolteacher while her father Marvin was an engineer who worked on Wall Street. The oldest in a family of three siblings (she has a younger brother and a younger sister), Carson grew up in Bethpage, Long Island. Following graduation from Plainedge High School in North Massapequa, New York, Lori went to be a Fine Arts major at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City as well as attended Hunter College. Carson began performing at Folk City, The Bitter End, and other clubs on or around Bleecker Street in Manhattan, New York City in the mid-1980's. Lori was signed to a development deal with Manhattan Records in 1987. This was subsequently followed by a recording contract with Geffen Records the next year.

Caron released her debut album "Shelter" to rave reviews in 1990. Lori was the lead singer for the band The Golden Palominos from 1993 to 1994. She released her second solo album "Where It Goes" in 1995. This was followed by the albums "Everything I Touch Runs Wild" in 1997, "Stars" in 1999, and "A House in the Weeds" in 2001. Moreover, Carson also released the compilation album "Stolen Beauty" in 2001; this compilation was made up of songs that she wrote and recorded for the soundtracks of a handful of movies. Lori released the album "The Finest Thing" in 2004. After an eight year gap, Carson issued the album "Another Year" in 2012. Her debut novel "The Original 1982" was published by William Morrow/Harper Collins in June, 2013.
