- Jack Pettis was a band leader (Jack Pettis and His Pets) and composer of a number of popular tunes, most notably the "Bugle Call Blues" otherwise known as the "Bugle Call Rag." He played clarinet and saxophone and appeared in a number of other musical organizations (New Orleans Rhythm Kings and Ben Bernie's Orchestra) before branching out on his own.
