Biography

José Antonio Guayasamin is an Ecuadorian-Canadian filmmaker, producer, and researcher based in Quebec. His practice explores documentary cinema, archival images, memory, and hybrid forms. Through filmmaking and editing, he develops a cinematic language in which documentary, essay, autobiography, and experimentation intersect through collaborative forms of cinema.

Trained as a filmmaker in Argentina, he graduated from E.N.E.R.C. and the Filmmaking School of Subiela and holds an MFA from the Université du Québec en Outaouais in Canada. His films have been presented at international film festivals and cultural institutions in Latin America, Europe, and North America.
