Daniel Rankin met Nathan Hill during secondary school, and the two became close friends through their shared passion for acting and filmmaking. In 1993, they spent a year creating their first low-budget feature, The Hidden (1993), in which Daniel helped develop the story and played a co-lead role. The film premiered to a full house at the Melting Pot Film Festival in Melbourne.
Years later, when Nathan attended film school, he hired Daniel as the chief carpenter on his graduate project, The Strange Game of Hyde and Seek (2004). Their collaboration continued when Nathan cast Daniel as the main villain in his first commercial feature, Fox Force (2009), trusting him to handle the intense role. Daniel later played his only leading role in Seance (2011), a film based on a true story.
In addition to acting in films, Daniel appeared in the reality shows How to Be a SexStar (2010) and Apocalypse Canoe (2014). His film career spanned a decade, concluding in 2014.
