Biography

He was the co-creator, producer, and main songwriter behind the Filipino disco band Hagibis, a Filipino version of The Village People. He co-founded the legendary "macho" group in 1979 and provided the actual singing voices for the first album before the band members were assembled for public appearances.

His father Francisco Hanopol used to play in an army band and later became an orchestra conductor. His mother Dionisia Abarico-Hanopol was also a singer. However, it was his maternal grandmother Nanay Inday who was his major musical influence during his childhood. He said Nanay Inday, a singer and guitarist, would played the guitar and sang every time she rocked his cradle.

Making ends meet, he did limousine driving as his day job and performing in bars as his night job.

A legendary Filipino rock singer, songwriter, and bassist, best known as a pioneer of Pinoy rock. He rose to fame in the 1970s as a key member of the iconic Juan de la Cruz Band alongside Pepe Smith and Wally Gonzalez.
