Amanda Lane began her career as an award-winning actress before stepping behind the camera to tell the kinds of bold, nuanced stories she felt were missing - especially for women. Twenty years on, she is an award-winning writer, director, and show-runner whose work blends powerful storytelling, cinematic artistry, and standout performances.

Amanda has worked on some of South Africa's most beloved television shows and is best known for creating and writing the first two seasons of the groundbreaking hit franchise MTV Shuga, which starred Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o (12 Years a Slave) and reached more than 700 million viewers worldwide. She is also the creator, writer, and director of the critically acclaimed Is'thunzi, which earned Thuso Mbedu (The Underground Railroad, The Woman King) two International Emmy nominations.

She recently completed co-writing and directing a young adult romantic comedy for Netflix, set to premiere in late 2025 and starring Masali Baduza (Noughts + Crosses, Bridgerton).
