Biography

Roger Goff is an entertainment attorney, film producer and strategic advisor whose career has been built at the intersection of capital, creativity and execution.

For nearly four decades, Roger has worked in and around the entertainment industry, advising producers, investors, lenders, entrepreneurs and creative talent on complex entertainment and business transactions. His particular focus is independent film and television finance - structuring transactions, evaluating risk and helping projects navigate the often substantial gap between getting a deal closed and actually getting a film made, delivered and successfully exploited.

Roger brings an unusually practical perspective to that work. He began his legal career as a corporate attorney handling mergers and acquisitions and private securities transactions before moving more fully into the entertainment industry, first in music and later predominantly in film and television. Over the course of his career, he has been involved in several hundred films and television programs as attorney, producer, executive producer, advisor or financier representative, giving him experience on virtually every side of the independent entertainment business.

At the same time, Roger has worked extensively as a producer and executive producer. His producing credits include "The Locksmith," starring Ryan Phillippe, Kate Bosworth and Ving Rhames; "Cut Throat City," directed by RZA; "The Tiger Rising," starring Queen Latifah and Dennis Quaid; "Krystal," directed by William H. Macy; and "Man Down," starring Shia LaBeouf, Gary Oldman and Kate Mara. His legal work has included projects ranging from independent productions to the Academy Award-winning "Dallas Buyers Club."

That combination of legal, financial and production experience has increasingly shaped Roger's work around a simple idea: a film investment should be evaluated not only by whether the documents are legally sound, but by whether the financing plan, production assumptions and people involved are capable of working together under real-world conditions.

Through Goff Law Corporation and his broader advisory work, Roger focuses on helping clients make better decisions before capital is committed and better decisions when inevitable problems arise during execution. His approach combines legal analysis, financial discipline, production experience and decades of pattern recognition in the entertainment business.

Before becoming a lawyer, Roger worked in radio and television broadcasting, advertising, commercial production and as a studio musician - an unconventional background that gave him an early understanding of both the creative and technical sides of media. He received his B.A. from UCLA and his J.D., with honors, from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles.

Roger is a member of the Producers Guild of America and the Television Academy.
