Melissa's mother is a former sketch comedy producer, actor and singer. Her father (Dean Russell) was the youngest male at that time to be given a voice scholarship to study opera at Juilliard, but dropped out after being cast in a musical on Broadway. He went on to tour with "Broadway Joe" Namath and work in film and TV.
