Biography

Started studying Tourism Management in 1991 at the Mediterranean University (Turkey) and after three years realized that he'd rather pursue a career in acting, changed his perspectives accordingly to study acting at the Hacettepe State University. He later on graduated with a Master's degree in acting from the Mimar Sinan University. Afterwards, Okur joined "Dostlar Tiyatrosu" in 1999 and in 2000 the Istanbul State Theatre. In 2002, he became a permanent cast of the Diyarbakir State Theatre, where he started giving lectures in the youth theatre program in Diyarbakir as well. He is married and has one child.

Yurdaer Okur was born in Rize, Turkey. He was born into an ordinary family, his father was a medical officer, his mother a housewife. Due to his father's job they did move around the region a bit. He is the oldest child and has two younger sisters.

After completing his early education he went on to university to study Tourism Managment at Akdeniz University. Part of the degree was in business admin which he excelled at. He studied at university in the winter months had compulsory internships in hotels over the summer. After completing the degree his profession changed direction and in 1994 he attended the Hacettepe University to study drama, and then he did a Masters Degree in the State Conservatory of Mimar Sinan University.

After this he started to act in theaters in Istanbul. He became an official at the Diyarbakir Theatre, he did this for ten years and when it ended he wasn't sure what to do so he attended interviews with acting agencies. He did some dubbing work for a short time then moved on to the TV. He said that TV work is a great responsibility you are entering someone's homes and its very different to working in a theatre.

His first appearance on screen was a small role in a very long-running series Ferhunde Hanimlar. He then worked on various films and TV series. The one that possibly brought him the most attention was as the prosecutor, Turgut in the 2012 series Karadayi. The series which ran from 2012 to 2015 and starred Kenan Imirzalioglu and Berguzar Korel was a big hit and Yurdaer played the bad guy. He said that playing the bad guy is good "look at Batman he was the good guy but nothing without The Joker."
