Darci Monet

Biography

  • New York State born-and-raised Darci Monet has been in demand as a professional vocalist since her college days at Belmont University in Nashville, TN. She has sung backup and/or recorded demos for such famous artists as Steve Winwood, Dolly Parton, Amy Grant, Kim Carnes and The Judds as well as some of the industry's most successful songwriters like Beth Nielson-Chapman (Faith Hill's "This Kiss"), John Hiatt ("Have A Little Faith In Me", most recently recorded by Mandy Moore), Alex Harvey (the classic "Delta Dawn") and John Swihart of Sonic Gravy Productions (composer for the film "Napoleon Dynamite" and writer of the theme song to ABC's "Hope and Faith").

Since moving to Los Angeles, Darci has released her debut CD as a solo artist entitled My Own Road, had a song she co-wrote performed on "The Apprentice" by her friend/co-writer Levi Kreis and her voice can be heard in the smash Fox Searchlight film "Napoleon Dynamite" (that's her singing "The Rose" early on in the film) and on the soundtrack to the critically acclaimed indie documentary "When Boys Fly". She landed an in-store jingle for Subway Sandwiches as well as other regional radio jingles and is hired regularly as a demo singer and backup vocalist. She has performed live for crowds of thousands throughout her career, most recently singing backup for 80's teen icon Tiffany at the Long Beach Pride Festival. In January 2004 Darci appeared on - and won - the syndicated Live in Hollywood talent competition/variety show which aired on UPN affiliates nationwide (see the video on the "flicks" page).

Darci has also recently started her own publishing company, Songs From the Fortress (BMI), and has been writing with recording artist Levi Kreis, who is currently promoting his brand new CD "One of the Ones" (on which Darci has three co-write listings). She has been pitching songs to artists like Kelly Clarkson, Justin Timberlake, Clay Aiken and Faith Hill. While she is currently very busy building herself a name as a songwriter as of late, Darci's first love is still singing and she continues to take bookings for studio sessions regularly. She has built herself a reputation in the studio as "the one-take wonder"! Darci is classically and commercially trained, reads music, can arrange vocal parts on demand and is as proficient on solo projects as she is in groups. Darci can handle all styles but excels in rock, pop and soul. Samples of her vocal and songwriting work can be heard at her website, www.darcimonet.com.

Finally, in her spare time, Darci also enjoys a part time career as a freelance writer. She is a published author in "Music Horror Stories: A Collection of Gruesome True Tales" (Goodnight Kiss Publishing, Los Angeles), a book containing short stories by various authors about good gigs gone terribly bad. Darci also publishes a popular opinion column and hosts discussions on her own message board called, "A Working Musician's Review", in which she critiques the contestants' performances on such shows as "American Idol" and "Rockstar: INXS". Darci is also currently putting together ideas to begin writing her first novel.
