Biography

Tony Campolo Jr. was born on February 25, 1935 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. He was a writer, known for The Least of These (2002), A Journey of Forgiveness (2019) and Battling Darkness (2013). He was married to Peggy Davidson. He died on November 19, 2024 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, USA.

He received a bachelor's degree in history from what is now Eastern University in St. Davids, Pennsylvania. He received a bachelor of divinity degree and a master of theology degree, both from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary (now Palmer Theological Seminary). He received a PhD in sociology from Temple University. He taught sociology at Eastern University for 48 years, after which he remained an adjunct professor.

Minister, professor, and author often described as a "liberal Baptist". He challenged Christians to separate their faith from conservative politics and use it for social justice.
