Biography

Steve Englehart is a veteran comic book writer. He started his career in 1971, working for the horror titles of Warren Publishing. He is primarily known for relatively long runs in writing for the series "The Avengers" (1972-1976), "Captain America" (1972-1975), "Doctor Strange" (1974-1976), Marvel's "Captain Marvel" (1974-1976), "Detective Comics" (1974-1978), "West Coast Avengers" (1985-1988), "Green Lantern Corps" (1986-1988), "Fantastic Four" (1987-1989), and "Silver Surfer" (1987-1989). In recent decades, he has written several mini-series.

Englehart has co-created a number of popular characters for both Marvel and DC Comics, including Batman's recurring love interest Silver St. Cloud, the Green Lantern Corps' main drill sergeant Kilowog, the drug-powered super-villain Snowflame, the Chinese secret agent and martial artist Shang-Chi, the Vietnamese telepath Mantis, the Asgardian immortal Valkyrie/Brunnhilde, and the demonically-enhanced sorcerer Master Pandemonium/Martin Preston.
