Dichen Lachman was born in Kathmandu, Nepal, to a Tibetan mother and Australian father. Until the age of seven, she lived in Kathmandu with her parents and extended family. Following that, she moved to Adelaide, Australia, with her parents. After dropping out of university, Dichen took up acting and then moved to Sydney to pursue her career. Her first major role was in Aquamarine (2006), followed by a 14-month stint on the Australian series Neighbours (1985), for which she moved to Melbourne. In December 2009, she completed two seasons of the Fox series Dollhouse (2009).

Lachman is of Australian and Tibetan descent. She was born in Kathmandu and lived in Nepal until she was 7 and then soon after her family moved to Adelaide, Australia.

In 2005, Lachman joined the cast of the long-running Australian soap opera Neighbours (1985) as nurse Katya Kinski. She originally auditioned for the part of Elle Robinson, Paul Robinson's daughter, but as she wasn't ideal for the part, the character Katya was created for her.

She is known to have attended Norwood Morialta High School, Annesley College, and the University of Adelaide in Adelaide, where she grew up. When Dichen first arrived in Adelaide, she went to West Lakes Shore Primary School and later Gilles Street Primary.

Gave birth to her first child at age 33, a daughter named Mathilda Osinski in May 2015. Child's father is her husband, Maximilian Osinski.
On January 24, 2015, she married longtime boyfriend Maximilian Osinski following a six-month-long engagement.

I don't know about everyone else, but I really loved lunch and recess because it was an opportunity to get carried away with your imagination.
I do paint, and I wanted to actually be a painter. Sometimes I'll whip out paints. It's tough to find the motivation, but it's also a solitary, lonely occupation. What I like about acting is that it is such a collaborative thing.
I shared a room with my parents until I was seven, and I lived with my uncles and aunts and my cousins and my grandfather . . . so the house was always full of people.
I like to act. I guess letting what you love be what you do is key. I've worked very hard for that to be the case, probably because I'm very lazy and I only want to do things that are fun and I run away from anything that feels like work . . . Acting for me is like lunch at school--you're just in a playground where you get to pretend and play.
As a person, when I was seven or eight, my dad would try very hard to tutor me through school because I had learning difficulties or whatever. I would wish that they could just plant a chip in my brain so that I would know everything and not have to study.
