  • Clara Cullen is an Argentine film director. She studied film at Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires and Documentary Filmmaking at Parsons School of Design in New York. She trained with Spike Lee and Werner Herzog, and her early works were exhibited at Maccarone Gallery (NYC) and FacSimile Gallery (Milan).

    Her shorts and experimental films have been featured on platforms such as Nowness and The New York Times, and her interactive piece Ballroom Battle won a Lovie Award in 2013. In 2015 she directed her debut opera Hercules in Mato Grosso in collaboration with Teatro Colón at Dixon Place (NYC). She later participated in the Prada Foundation film residency in Venice (2016) and presented work at the Biennial of Moving Image at Faena Art Center (2017).

    Cullen has also directed music videos, including Lykke Li's Utopia (2018), and developed performances at The Shed (NYC) with composer Richard Sears (2019). Her documentary Lost and Found (2021) screened at IndieLisboa, SEMINCI and BADOC Festival.

    Her debut feature Manuela premiered at the Mar del Plata Film Festival in 2022, winning Best Latin American and Spanish Film at Santa Barbara International Film Festival and Best Director at the Next Generation Indie Film Awards, and went on to screen internationally.
