Jasika Nicole grew up in Birmingham, AL and studied musical theatre, dance and studio art at Catawba College in Salisbury, NC before moving to NYC to work in theatre. There she performed in Off and Off-Off Broadway musicals and plays before starting her career in TV and film. Identifying as a queer, biracial and black woman, Nicole has been with her wife, Claire Savage, since 2006 and has most recently voiced the role of the queer, WOC narrator, Keisha Taylor, in the cult favorite Night Vale Presents podcast Alice Isn't Dead (2016). Outside of TV and film, Nicole is an avid craftsperson, penning essays and blog posts about intersectional feminism in the crafting world. She sews her own clothes, makes shoes, builds and reupholsters furniture, and draws and writes her own web comics.

In her younger days, she spent some time in show choir. Fans got a glimpse of her singing talent when sang a short piece from "A Chorus Line" in Fringe's Season 2 musical episode "Brown Betty." It made such a splash, Fringe fans started a petition asking Fox and the producers of GLEE to book Jasika as a guest star.
One of only four actors, who is credited with being in all 100 episodes in the five seasons of Fringe.
She's studying the production of graphic novels as she creates her own series, called "High Yella Magic.".
Pronounces her name "jah-SEE-kuh.".
She gave the Commencement Address to the Catawba College 2012 graduating class, in Salisbury, North Carolina.

Why do we need a whole press conference for coming out? Obviously the assumption is that everyone is heterosexual. No straight woman is ever like, "Whew. Okay. I'm going to - guys, I'm going to go on Oprah and talk about... my husband." I do feel like we're moving into territory where if you're assuming someone is heterosexual, that's on you.
I got into sewing clothes because, when I was an art minor in college, I had to take a design class, and I didn't want to do lights or sound. I thought the costume design class sounded cool. So, I showed up to the costume design class, and I hated the design aspect of it. It just wasn't for me, but the construction part of it, I was like, "holy cow, this is so cool." It's like being an architect for a body; for a physical form.
A Nightmare on Elm Street is my all-time favorite movie. I had to have been in kindergarten when it came out, and my dad took me to the movie theatre to watch it.
Sometimes I think we forget that we can like something and also be critical of it. I can like an actor and be uncomfortable or frustrated with their views. As a society, we don't really give actors or writers or politicians the space to be their fully formed selves.
Music-wise, I like a band called Brockhampton. They're like a rapping boy band. I've never quite heard anything like them, but they're incredible.
