Biography

Alexis Krasilovsky was one of the first women to graduate from Yale. While an undergraduate, she made her first film, End of the Art World, recently restored by a National Film Preservation Foundation Award to the Yale Film Archives, and featuring Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns. The making of End of the Art World was fictionalized in Krasilovsky's new novel, Portrait of an Artist as a Young Woman, about a woman struggling to make films in the 1970s and 80s despite the odds. Krasilovsky traveled to twenty countries filming and screening her award-winning global documentaries, Women Behind the Camera and Let Them Eat Cake. She also holds an MFA from CalArts in Film/Video and is Professor Emerita of Screenwriting at California State University Northridge. Her short film about menstrual rage, Blood, was reviewed in the Los Angeles Times as "in its stream-of-consciousness way, more powerful than Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver."
