Biography

Alan Colegrave

Mini bio

  • Alan Colegrave joined the BBC from 6th form college. Ten years later he would write and direct his first 16mm funded film. The film went down well and was taken up by a film library. He continued to produce 16mm short films for some time until video came on the scene. He moved to ITN (Independent Television News) to work as a VT editor. He only stayed at ITN 3 years before moving to WTN, later Associated Press. Although he found the work interesting it was not the direction he wanted to go. He decided to leave fulltime employment to become a freelance producer/videographer/editor. After a slow start work staring rolling in. At that time his work was split between News, Documentary and News feature stories. A little, later he went into programme making and now has either produced, directed or both directed and produced more than 50 TV programmes. Alan was very keen on drama and starting writing drama scripts. Many became shorts films and one became a 110 minute feature film. Alan has seen many changes in the TV and film business and is still working hard. He believes the best directors have been video editors in their past as they know how pictures fit together. He spent 10 years editing video!
