Biography

Evald Hallisk was an Estonian intelligence agent during the Cold War. After fleeing to Sweden at the end of WWII in 1945, Hallisk was recruited by the Swedish security service T-kontoret, where he was trained to infiltrate the Soviet Union from within. In 1950 he was sent back to Estonia to carry out intelligence missions for Sweden. Once back in Estonia, Hallisk was captured and sentenced to 25 years of hard labor in Siberia. He was released in 1965 but never returned to Sweden as he feared that the Soviet security service KGB would harm his wife and son in Sweden. Evald Hallisk died in Estonia in 2004.

On March 25, 1993, the Swedish government awarded Evald Hallisk ex gratia compensation of SEK 500,000 for humanitarian reasons.

After doing community service in Sweden for five months as a refugee, Evald Hallisk was employed at Scania-Vabis in Södertälje.
