His journey began in the late 1990s on the theatrical stage, where he cut his teeth in classical productions, developing the discipline that would later define his screen work.
By the early 2000s, he had transitioned into television, becoming a familiar face on Italy’s most popular prime-time programs between 2001 and 2004, among others: Il Bagaglino, Barbecue, Sarabanda Wrestling, and Ciao Darwin.
His international "big break" arrived at Cinecittà Studios. While filming a global commercial, his physicality and screen presence caught the eye of HBO talent scouts. Following intensive training in ancient gladiator combat techniques, he was cast in the landmark series HBO's Rome, the best series of the year in 2005.
Seeking to deepen his dramatic range, Nico spent the years between 2007 and 2014 immersing himself in the Strasberg Method at the Actors Center. This period of study led to a prolific run in high-profile international productions
Soon after, followed roles in 'Angels & Demons', 'Nine', 'Duplicity', Amalfi: Megami no hoshu', and 'Apparitions'.
In 2010, his reputation as a physical performer placed him on the worldwide shortlist for the lead role in Spartacus: Blood and Sand. Since then, follow 'Pater Kastell', 'Commissario Rex', 'Stratton', 'Ben-Hur', and 'John Wick 2'.
Expanding his influence behind the camera, Nico co-wrote and produced the project Mnemonix: The Hive (2020), which garnered significant global attention in 2020.
In 2021, he delivered a compelling performance as Ser Manetto Donati in Pupi Avati’s Dante, Dante (2022) followed by a role in Mimmo Calopresti’s Biopic, Romanzo Radicale.
Following his involvement in Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One, in 2022, Toffoli’s career reached a new peak with his portrayal of Ramon Reyes in Joseph Lefevre's Said: Black Blow Said: Black Blow (2026)-a performance critics have hailed as a landmark in his career, receiving Etna Comics EC26 Award 2026 as Actor of the Year.
Nico is at the forefront of the highly anticipated international production "The Wizard Hunter: The Hunt for Evangelion Crowley" as main Villain Paul Görg. Produced by ZMA ODFlix and spearheaded by international producers Marie Barbancourt, Vronsky Belizaire, and Keith L. Craig, the project marks Toffoli's continued evolution as a leading figure in global genre cinema.
