Biography

Kyle Espeleta

Mini bio

  • Kyle Espeleta was born in San Leandro, California, and grew up in the small town of Anderson Valley. He is a writer, producer and actor known for Donald Cried (2016), Freeloader (2010) and Apartment 202 (2005).

He began making short films in Los Angeles in the late 1990s with two high school friends, Zachary Raines and Jesse Wakeman. In 2001, while living in Berkeley, he met Kristopher Avedisian; the two started writing and producing together and made their first feature, "Three Tears a Prince and Forest," with Wakeman. The three continued making shorts over the next decade in New York, among them a 2012 short they later expanded into the feature Donald Cried.

Donald Cried premiered at SXSW in 2016. Avedisian wrote and directed it from a story by Espeleta and Wakeman, and Espeleta served as an executive producer. The film was nominated for Best First Screenplay at the 33rd Independent Spirit Awards.

Espeleta has also worked as a photographer since 2010, covering financial and corporate conferences in New York before moving to Los Angeles in 2014, where he photographs events across Southern California. He contributed to Getty Images' FilmMagic entertainment wire.
