Biography

  • Tom Dowd was born on October 20, 1925 in New York City, New York, USA. He is known for Airheads (1994), Bank Roll (2012) and Rod Stewart: What Am I Gonna Do (I'm So in Love with You) (1983). He died on October 27, 2002 in New York City, New York, USA.

Trivia

  • Was the first engineer to record in stereo, giving Atlantic Records, where he currently was the chief engineer, an edge when stereo became popular. They had been recording in stereo for a few years before, so they were able release their material in stereo right away as other studios were updating their equipment.
  • Worked on the Manhatten Project from 1942 to 1946 at Columbia University. He also monitored a pair of nuclear explosions in the Pacific in 1946. Columbia University, however, did not merit him any credit for his work on the project. That is the reason he left the university and landed in the music industry.
  • Is portrayed by Rick Gomez in Ray (2004)
  • Recording engineer and record producer.
