Bob Bish

Bob Bish worked mainly in radio for 27 years, but also worked as an extra, specialty extra or featured extra on 10 movies and 2 TV series. He was often struck with the irony of working in radio and having non-speaking roles in film. He was either seen and not heard, or heard and not seen. He became involved with the campus radio station days after arriving at college...just for fun. That led to an offer of a job in radio, which led to another and another. Bob had a career in radio he did not pursue, it just happened. Following radio jobs brought him to Tucson to work at the legendary KWFM in the mid-1970s. There he met the woman who would become his wife, a compelling reason to stay in Tucson and not move on to larger markets, the way to get ahead in radio. Trying to make a living in radio in the same town can be challenging. Bob did well, but did other things to fill in gaps, mostly having to do with audio. He was Sound Designer for professional theater for a season and did location sound for film. This led him to look into getting into the sound dept. of a new TV series called The Young Riders. There were no openings in sound, but they put him on as an extra. Bob really enjoyed this kind of work and being part of that process. He continued to work on The Young Riders as time permitted while also working in radio. He went on to work on many other productions including some big-budget Hollywood movies.
