Biography

Helen Winkler is a Canadian writer, narrator, dance educator, researcher, and longtime advocate for inclusion. Her work documents the traditional Jewish dances of Eastern Europe and helps make dance instruction accessible to people with intellectual disabilities. She created Helen’s Yiddish Dance Page and the Adapted Dances video channel.

Winkler is the mother of Canadian watercolor artist Rita Winkler and has played an instrumental role in supporting Rita’s artistic development and independence. She collaborated on the children’s book My Art, My World and is the writer and narrator of the short documentary A More Colorful World: The Artistry Behind Rita Winkler, which examines Rita’s creative process and distinctive way of seeing.
