  • Independent producer, also scriptwriter and director. A track in documentary films, mostly international co-productions, via his two companies: MLK Producciones and Producciones Transatlánticas focused mostly in documentary and fiction productions.

    Born in Málaga (Spain), José Antonio Hergueta started his career as video artist and independent filmmaker. His works of video art have been screened in festivals and museum worldwide. Having lived in Madrid, Maastricht, Glasgow and Brazil, in 1999 returned to his home town where he starts a new project under MLK, the Phoenician name for Málaga.

    As director, his most significative documentaries are La Tierra de la Madre (1994), which treats the exile of the so-called 'children of Russia' to the Soviet Union during Spanish Civil War, The Merchant City (1997), a very personal portrait of the Scottish city of Glasgow; Paseo por la ciudad púrpura (1999) an educational program about the History of Mediterranean cities starting with Malaga; Operación Úrsula (El misterio del submarino C-3) (2006) about a German submarine warfare in Spanish Civil War through the mystery of C-3, a missing submarine of the Spanish Republican fleet, found recently; and El último magnate (2011) a portrait of Horacio Echevarrieta, Basque tycoon in top international business during the in-between wars period, who attempts to build in his shipyard the most advanced submarine of the 1920s.

    From MLK and later Producciones Transatlánticas, José Antonio Hergueta has achieved a track in independent films co-produced with partners all over Europe and America, with participation of main TV channels and support from national and EU funds and programs. Very interested in new formats and media, has developed several projects for online distribution, combining social media and broadcasting, such as Is_landia (2013)

    Founder member of professional associations Docus Andalusia; Procinema and now president of PECAA (Plataforma de Empresarios y Creadores del Audiovisual Andaluz), gathering the independent film producers in South Spain, also a member of the Eurodoc network.
