Biography

Matisyahu was born on June 30, 1979 in West Chester, Pennsylvania, USA. He is an actor and composer, known for The Possession (2012), Knocked Up (2007) and King Without a Crown.

His name means "gift of God" in Hebrew and derives from the ancient Jewish warrior and religious leader, Mattathias.

Sings in English, Hebrew and Yiddish.

(To date) Has recorded two studio albums (not counting the 2005 live release "Live at Stubb's").

Took part in a semester-long program that offers students first-hand exploration of Jewish heritage at Alexander Muss High School in Hod Hasharon, Israel.

Writing his follow-up to "Youth", which is due for release sometime in early 2008.
