- Anya Phillips was born in February 1955 in Taipei, Taiwan. She was an actress, known for Rome '78 (1978), The Foreigner (1978) and Guerillere Talks (1978). She died on June 19, 1981 in Valhalla, New York, USA.

- Fashion designer and co-founder of the NYC nightclub the Mudd Club, Phillips was a driver of that city's No Wave scene in the late 1970s. She was the girlfriend and manager of saxophonist-singer James Chance. Her half brother is singer Fei Xiang (Kris Phillips).
- While hospitalized for treatment of her brain tumor, Phillips designed a line of outfits called "Sadistic Nurses".
- Was good friends with singer Debbie Harry, who admired her energy and dry, sarcastic sense of humor. Harry wore dresses designed by Phillips on the covers of Blondie's album "Plastic Letters" (1978) and her solo single "Rush Rush" (1983, after Phillips' death).
- James Chance dedicated his album "Sax Maniac" (1982) to Phillips' memory.
