Biography

Jim Weatherly was born on March 17, 1943 in Pontotoc, Mississippi, USA. He was a composer, known for No Escape (2015), The Equalizer (2014) and Broadcast News (1987). He was married to Cynthia Leake. He died on February 3, 2021 in Brentwood, Tennessee, USA.

His songs were recorded by artists in country, pop, gospel and R&B, including Gladys Knight and the Pips, Garth Brooks, Kenny Chesney, Neil Diamond, Ray Price, and Kenny Rogers.

His biggest hit song, "Midnight Train to Georgia", was originally titled "Midnight Plane to Houston".

He was recruited by the University of Mississippi football team, and eventually became a star quarterback.

He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2014.
