Biography

At the age of six, Frings made his debut in club sports with his hometown club "Rot-Weiß Alsdorf". He soon attracted the attention of larger clubs and moved to "Alemannia Aachen" as a C-youth. He finished school with a technical college entrance qualification while he celebrated his first successes at Alemannia Aachen. For the 1996/1997 season he moved to "Werder Bremen" as a professional. Torsten Frings won the DFB Cup here in 1999. In 2001/2002 he rose to become one of the most popular kickers in the 1st Bundesliga as a brilliant all-rounder. For the 2002/2003 season, Frings moved to the first division club "Borussia Dortmund" for a transfer fee of 8.5 million euros, where he scored 6 goals in the first season. However, he made himself an indispensable play maker in the attack with a strong overview of the field. He then moved to record champions FC Bayern Munich for 9.2 million euros.

In Bavaria, the 1.82 m tall Torsten Frings became the star of the league. With Munich he won the League Cup in 2004, German champions in 2005 and German Cup winners in 2005. In 2005/2006 he moved back to "Werder Bremen". In 2005, national coach Jürgen Klinsmann appointed Torsten Frings to the DFB squad for the 2006 World Cup in Germany. As a defensive midfielder, he was one of the hopes of the German national team. After the German national team won the World Cup on June 30, 2006 with a 5-3 victory. After reaching the semi-finals against Argentina, the team under captain Michael Ballack lost 0-2 goals in extra time against Italy on July 4, 2006. In the game for third place on July 8th in Stuttgart, the German team won 3-1 against Portugal. The triumph of the 2006 World Cup title went to Italy in the final on July 9th, to which France lost on penalties.

In August 2006, Federal President Horst Köhler awarded the German national team the "Silver Laurel Leaf", the highest award that Germany can give to athletes.

Torsten Frings is married and has two daughters named Lisa-Katharina and Lena.
