Biography

Jake Morgan-Scharhon is a Pacific Northwest based transgender writer-director, video editor, and actor. As a writer, Jake's focus is creating community through story. A Three Dollar Bill Cinema Fellowship award recipient, Jake is creating the short film Small Town Outlaws, which is based on a feature film screenplay he is also developing of the same title. Small Town Outlaws is an LGBTQ+ coming-of-age dramedy and mystery, loosely inspired by the tales of Robin Hood. The film transforms Robin into a charismatic teenage transgender young man and leader of a queer gang called The Wolves. An Artist Trust Fellowship Award recipient, Jake is eager to continue development on his feature screenplay, Top, which is inspired by his experience receiving top surgery. Jake wrote, edited, and co-directed a short film of Top, which is currently playing at film festivals internationally, and won an Artist Trust Grants For Artist Projects (GAP) Award. Jake's feature screenplay, Rules For Drowning, was named an Academy Nicholl Fellowship quarterfinalist, and selected for Gotham’s (IFP) emerging narrative program. Multifaceted, as a video editor, Jake has edited television shows for HGTV, Magnolia, A&E, VH1, Travel Channel, and the DIY Network. Originally trained as an actor, Jake is most known for his work as Chance and Wendy Hale in Guy Maddin's internationally acclaimed feature, Brand Upon The Brain!, and the Academy Award winning short, God of Love. His theater credits include work with Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Seattle Repertory Theatre, and Obie award winner Half Straddle. Jake enjoys watching the Mets with his wife, and taking his little dog, Kino, for walks in the woods. Jake is a graduate of Cornish College of the Arts.
