Stan Murphy

Biography

  • Stanley Wilford Murphy, Jr. passed away at home in Melbourne, FL on October 12th surrounded by loved ones. Stan was born in Jacksonville, FL September 13, 1954 to the late Sarajane & Stanley Murphy Sr.

He is survived by his fiancée', Evelyn "Anna" Salazar, her two children Sara and Chris, his daughter Alyssa Rose (Alexander) of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, daughter Cameron Lyons of Jacksonville, FL, 5 siblings: Cindy Smith (Jerry), Amy Barnett (Bill), Peggy Robison (Jeff), Patrick Murphy (Kelly), and Will Murphy (Andie), along with 19 cherished nieces and nephews, two grandchildren Avery & Ashton Rose, and dearest friends Brad & Trina Downey & Michael Via.

Stan began working alongside his father at age 15 to build one of the largest printing/direct mail advertising companies in Jacksonville during the 80's. After his father retired, Stan began working as a cinematographer for Jerry Smith Studios, for whom he was a director of photography for nearly 30 years. Stan's work is seen worldwide and won him a daytime Emmy award. He earned a PhD with a major in Film and Television Production. Stan volunteered as a cancer patient advocate after losing his wife Patricia to cancer in 2007. Stan, lovingly known as "Stan the Man", loved golf, snow skiing and boating. Those who knew Stan know he had a gift for story telling and trophy fishing. If he wasn't holding a camera or a fishing rod, he was likely grilling out in his beautiful backyard known to his loved ones as "Murphy Cafe".

Memorial services will be held November 7, 2015 at Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Melbourne, FL with a reception to follow.
