Tom Martin(XIV)

Tom Martin is an American actor whose work spans film, television, and the stage, where he has built a career portraying thoughtful, emotionally complex men navigating the tensions between intellect, responsibility, memory, and conscience. Whether playing historical figures, fathers, artists, or men confronting profound moral choices, his performances are marked by quiet authority, psychological depth, and an understated naturalism. His screen credits include The Plot Against America, The Blacklist, Law & Order: SVU, Bull, and Gotham. His film work includes portraying legendary jazz impresario Norman Granz opposite Jill Scott in the NAACP Image Award-winning Ella; guitarist John Fahey in the Grammy-nominated documentary Two Trains Runnin'; and appearances in the Sundance-selected PBS documentary Slavery By Another Name. His performance in the short film The Call, in which he carries the film almost entirely alone, earned multiple Best Actor honors on the festival circuit, while his portrayal of Frank, a father living with early-onset dementia in Ciao, Mama, reflects his continuing interest in deeply human, character-driven stories. A classically trained stage actor, Martin has performed many of the theatre's most enduring roles, including Tom Wingfield in The Glass Menagerie, Uncle Vanya in Uncle Vanya, Billy in Streamers, J.D. Salinger in the Off-Broadway production A Life in the Rye, and Nicholas Ray in The Cry of the Butterfly. His theatre work also includes plays by Shakespeare, Chekhov, Arthur Miller, Tennessee Williams, and David Rabe. Raised in Oakland, California, Martin studied English at the University of California, Berkeley before earning his MFA from the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. He later completed William Esper's acclaimed two-year Meisner program in New York, where he continues to live and work.
