Biography

Adriano Espaillat was born on September 27, 1954 in Santiago, Dominican Republic. He has been married to Martha M. Madera since 1979. They have two children.

Member of the New York State Assembly (1 January 1997 - 31 December 2010). He was the first person born in the Dominican Republic ever elected as a member of a state legislature in the United States.

U.S. Representative (D) from New York (3 January 2017-present), representing Upper Manhattan including Harlem, and part of the Bronx.

Member of the New York Senate (1 January 2011 - 31 December 2016).

Is a member of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity.
