- Son of David Drew Zingg.
- Graduated from The Loomis Chaffee School (Windsor, Connecticut) in 1973.
- Spent two years on tour with Steely Dan as lead guitarist and music director.
- Spent ten years doing the NY club scene, at times backing Shawn Colvin and Lucy Kaplansky. He also did some Broadway production and session work. Eventually he started playing in a band headed by keyboard player and vocalist Jeff Young.
- Played guitar on records for Lucy Kaplansky, Monkey House, Steely Dan, Lili Anel, Alana Davis, Adam Holzman, Michael McDonald, Marcus Miller, Nelson Rangell and Boz Scaggs.
- Has two brothers, Peter and Chris.
- Has a son Levon.
- In 1989 he joined Donald Fagen's New York Rock and Soul Revue.
- In 1996 he began touring with Boz Scaggs.
