Martha Washington(1731-1802)
- Writer
Martha Dandridge Custis Washington (June 2, 1731 - May 22, 1802) was the wife of George Washington, who was one of the Founding Fathers and the first president of the United States. Martha helped to define the role of the president's wife and setting many precedents that future first ladies would observe. Martha Washington is consistently ranked by historians in the upper half of all U.S. first ladies, according to Siena quadrennial U.S. first lady surveys. She was often referred to as "Lady Washington", as the term first lady had yet to be coined.
