Gunther von Hagens was born on 10 January 1945 in Skalmierzyce, Województwo Wielkopolskie, Poland. He was married to Angelina Whalley and Cornelia von Hagens. He died on 24 July 2026 in Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
He is the inventor of plastination, a technique to preserve corpses.
His work is displayed in an exhibit called Body Worlds, which started
touring the world in 1995.
