Magdalena Maleeva was born on April 1, 1975 in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Sister of Katerina Maleeva and Manuela Maleeva, each of whom were ranked in the top 10.

Her mother was a 9-time Bulgarian champion and played on the 1968 Federation Cup Team.

Won 10 WTA singles titles.

Was Monica Seles's opponent at the 1993 Hamburg Open when Seles was stabbed in the back during a changeover by a Steffi Graf fan.
